About Amy Vickers

I am a freelance journalist, editor and writer, specialising in health, lifestyle, travel, consumer affairs, social issues, psychology, media and technology.
My articles have appeared in The Guardian, The Independent, The Daily Express, The Daily Mirror, Cosmo magazine and other publications and websites.
I was part of the editorial start-up team of the The Guardian’s www.mediaguardian.com where I was shortlisted for Press Gazette’s Online Journalist of the Year. I have written opinion-based columns for most of the UK’s leading daily newspapers.
I am available for freelance writing (articles and longer-term projects), proof-reading, editing, corporate brochures and copy-writing.

Biography:
Amy Vickers was born in Sheffield in 1972. She studied Media Communications & English at Lancaster University, and arrived in London, Dick Whittington style, after graduation in 1994.
She worked her way up the journalism greasy pole from a starting point of the trade magazines New Media Age and Media Week. She was soon writing a weekly column for The Independent covering the shenanigans of the dotcom world before being poached by the Guardian to do the same there and set up Mediaguardian.com.
Another poaching took her to The Daily Mirror where she wrote Amy’s I, a daily column explaining the complexities of technology, the internet, gadgets and games. All this time, Amy was also a news reporter covering technical consumer issues for the paper.

Two years later, Amy was asked to join the Daily Express as consumer editor, where she would go back to daily news reporting and digging around for stories of consumer injustice and social affairs.
After 18 months, she moved across to Features to edit the Tuesday health section, where she honed her interviewing, editing, proofing, writing and commissioning skills.
Throughout her stints on The Mirror and The Express, Amy, a keen traveller, also wrote reports for the travel sections and reviewed many spas and treatments for The Express’ beauty section.
